Four More Wins

Aforementioned inferiority complex aside, today has been a good day in Chicago.

I was raised in and around the Windy City, within two South-sider families. Born and bred an American Leaguer by a dad who grew up loving the Indians and Tigers. I can argue rationally for the existence of the designated hitter. I’ve dressed as Ron Kittle for Halloween. I was taught by family members to think that Cubs fans are yuppie scum.

Sure, Wrigley Field is a great place to soak in a game and some suds. But it won’t be hosting the 2005 World Series.

In a year where the other best thing going for Chicago sports is celebrating 20 years since the Bears won the Super Bowl, this promises to be a pretty sweet week. Even before the first pitch on Saturday…heck, even before we know who we’re playing…there’s nothing but the thrill of an amazing season, pride in the Sox’s accomplishment and the hope of more October dreams fulfilled.Cap

Somewhere in the afterlife, my Uncle Gene is grinning, and I can’t help but join him.
