Not too far in, but Accelerando is infiltrating my brain in pleasant and bizarre ways.
One of the things I’ve found thrilling is the authority that Stross’s narrative voice brings to his vision of the future. I forget at times that I am reading speculative fiction at all, and not some sort of authentic future artifact. Stross’s text is so thick with intriguing ideas and spot-on details that I’ve already come to trust his world completely.
Case in point: almost offhandedly, buried in a detail describing something else, Stross refers to "President Santorum’s America." It’s a masterful detail, evoking a wealth of dystopian visions of the world Manfred Macx inhabits. And if you ever get overwhelmed by the details and memes, just click over to the very helpful Accelerando Technical Companion.
Don’t take my word for it, go get your own! Although I am reading the treeware edition, in the spirit of the text itself Accelerando is available in its entirety as a free download from the author.
